This butter keeper has been wheelthrown in a smooth white clay.
Available for pre-order 📫
These butterkeepers can be pre-ordered when I don’t have any listed in stock. If I don’t have any in progress, the lead-time can be up to 8-12 weeks, due to the process and multiple firings that any ceramic piece has to go through.
Originating in the late 1800s, this method of keeping butter soft, spreadable and fresh stored out of the fridge is still just as useful and relevant today. Sometimes, called a 'butter bell', the hollow 'bell' of the lid is filled with butter. When inverted, and placed onto a base with an inch or two of water, the butter in the bell is protected by an airtight seal.
This piece measures just over 7cm tall and about 12cm around.
Although dishwasher safe, to keep these pieces at their very best I recommend hand washing.
Each piece is hand crafted, and I value the variations in shape, glaze and size that come from authentic hand craftsmanship.
