This butter keeper has been wheelthrown in a smooth white clay and glazed is a deep, rich green.
Originating in the late 1800s, this method of keeping butter soft, spreadable and fresh stored out of the fridge, involves adding water to the base of the keeper so that, with the lid of the piece filled with anywhere from half a stick to a full stick of butter, it creates an airtight seal.
This piece measures just over 7cm tall and about 12cm around.
Although dishwasher safe, to keep these pieces at their very best I recommend hand washing.
Each piece is hand crafted, and I value the variations in shape, glaze and size that come from authentic hand craftsmanship.
