My feed has been full of death lately. So it’s not very surprising that it’s coming out in my work. That I’m trying to make sense of it.
Little bodies that shouldn’t, in the natural order of things, be covered in blood. Little bodies, that I just want to protect from what’s happening. I want to shelter them, and cup them in my hands, and hold them against the horror of the world.
But the only little bodies I can hold in my hands are the tiny birds in my garden. These are the little bodies that are meant to be found, cold and stiff in the winter morning. Whole and right. There’s beauty in this precious, natural passing. I can accept this, celebrate it and see the beauty in it. I can make sense of this.
But I absolutely can’t make sense of the others. We should never see other little bodies burnt, bloodied and dismembered. It is atrocious and criminal and horrific that we do.
