This was an almost entire paint-over of an existing piece, and I feel like the entire painting it was before, existed just to make those big red blooms 🫶🏻
The gymea lilies are just about to bloom at the Botanic Gardens. They have crazy Jurassic park vibes, and look like they shouldn’t exist. After a rough couple weeks, Josh surprised me with tickets for a twilight tour at the gardens the other day, and my mind has been full of warm, dark evenings and night moths and the apricot peach smell of begonia and frog song and flashlights on the path and little pardalotes roosting and crunchy gravel paths in the dark ever since.
It’s kind of fitting that this is painted over a bright, light piece - like night over day🌙
