I posted about painting this the other day. About having too many directions in my mind and having to work to get past them and just do what felt good. And it sounds so silly, but this funny little pigeon kept coming to the open door of my studio and looking in (the chickens let themselves in all the time, so I think he was working out what the deal was) and watching me, and his little pigeon presence really helped me set aside all the things I WANTED this painting to be, and just let it be. Sometimes you just need to paint fast, wistful brushstrokes and then a heavy stroke over top. Sometimes it’s nothing fancy, it’s just the pressure on your wrist as you scribble black over golden. And the slip of the brush over water saturated surface. And a little dude watching from the door, and tracking little wet pigeon footprints on the doorstep.
